Art and DT
Welcome to Art and Design Technology.
Hello! My name is Miss R Doyle, and I will be teaching Art and DT to years 1-6 this year. Art and DT is my lead area within school so I am delighted to be able to teach the subjects across Key stage 1, Lower Key stage 2 and Upper Key stage 2. We have a newly converted art studio which is used especially for these lessons. Children have the opportunity to learn in a different environment once per week whilst working through our vibrant art and DT curriculum. I have worked at Bickerstaffe since January 2022 teaching in Class 2 and Class 4. I am so excited for my new role this year as art and DT teacher. I am passionate about the Reggio approach to teaching which involves an;
‘Atelier in a Reggio Emilia school encourages experimentation, intuition and spontaneous creativity. The wide variety of materials allows for free expression of ideas. The Atelier, along with other spaces in a Reggio Emilia school, invites children to invent, create and explore themselves through art.’
All of which I am hoping to bring to life with children at Bickerstaffe School.
I am passionate about opportunities for enrichment within the school and giving children opportunities to develop aside from their main art and DT lessons. For the past 3 years we have designed Christmas cards which parents are given the opportunity to have order to printed on cards, cups and other stationary. We have entered a West Lancashire Christmas card competition last year which a child in our school won and had a chance to meet the mayor and their card was printed as the design for West Lancashire’s Christmas card last year.
Last year we combined ‘Philosophy for children’ with our art work when entering the annual ‘Rotary art competition’, whereby children created work based on the theme of ‘rebuilding’. The work was displayed at West Lancashire college and parents and children were invited to come along to view. I am excited about the upcoming year and can’t wait to see what the children can achieve in art and DT.
I am looking forward to teaching your children this year!
